Genesis LB5 unit

Ohayo minna~ I think i forgot to write about this card during my article about the EB12 Regalia support. So sorry about that~ ><
Anyways, let's take a look at the new crossride for Regalia of Wisdom, Angelica, with a lb5 skill shall we?

Regalia of Wisdom and Courage, Brunhild
[ACT](VC): Limit Break 5(This ability is active when you have 5 or more damage)[Counter Blast (4), Soul Blast (6)] Retire up to 3 of your opponent's rear-guards. For each unit retired, you may draw 1 card.
[CONT](VC): If you have a card named Wisdom of the Sacred Regalia, Angelica in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000.

Okay, abit overcosted, but this is a decent card overall. The lb5 is devastating to many rg-dependent decks(eg, Aqua Force, Nova Grappler) and hand size would not be a problem in this deck with Angelica. The main issue here is deck-out. Your opponent might want to keep you from 5 damage to prevent usage of this card's skill, and as a result from constant soul charging, you would deck-out. To counter this, you may want to run a few legion units in the deck, for extra power pressure as well, since Brundhild does not have much power on her own unless you soul blast Norn or Achiles.
You may also wish to run unflippers in the deck, since this card doesn't have Lord(yay! :D), to use the lb5 skill multiple times in one game, but watch out for your deck size once again.

Most people think this card is no good, but really, it's all about how you use it and make it synergize with the other cards in your deck. I have constructed a deck around this card and beat quite a number of top-tier decks with it, namely, Raizers Legion and RPBA. You may wish to take a look at my decklist below:

G3
3 Regalia of Wisdom and Courage, Brundhild
3 Regalia of Wisdom, Angelica
2 Regalia of Cosmos, CEO Yggdrasil
G2
4 Regalia of Fate, Norn
4 Goddess of Trees, Jupiter
2 Regalia of Abundance, Freya
2 Evening Regalia, Hesperides
G1:
2 Witch of Strawberries, Framboise(Perfect Guard)
2 Regalia of Cold, Svalin(Quintet Wall)
4 Exorcism Regalia, Shiny Angel
2 Ordain Owl
3 Witch of Apples, Cider
Rainbow triggers(all with Regalia archetype)
Starter: Vivd Rabbit(G3 searcher)

The main focus of this deck is to Legion early, pressure the opponent and deplete his hand, then ride Brundhild to wipe the field and win the game. Sometimes i ride Brundhild first, so i would build my hand, and wipe my opponent's field. Once their defenses are withered down, i would ride CEO Yggdrasil to end the game.
You see, Brundhild is not really meant to be a main boss(imo) but more of a support card which you can use to pressure your opponent and reduce his hand size, as he would have to use his hand to replenish the field that you wiped out. Now do you believe me when i say Brundhild is actually a decent card, compared to what most people think? :D

Cray Journal: Genesis, the Sacred Regalia

One topic not covered in this blog yet, is the Genesis clan, and their atchetype, regalia.
In the very beginning, we had Wisdom of Sacred Regalia, Angelica from the TD
After that, we had the crossride, Omniscience Regalia, Minerva
Now, at Extra Booster 12: Waltz of the Goddess, we have legion for these beautiful ladies :D
Our main boss, the CEO of genesis herself, Regalia of the Cosmos, CEO Yggdrasil, and her mate Regalia of Fate, Norn.
CEO Yggdrasil: [ACT] Legion 20000 "Regalia of Fate, Norn" (If your opponent has a Grade 3 or greater Vanguard, only once, this unit may return 4 cards from your drop zone to your deck, search for the specified card, and perform Legion)
[AUTO](VC): [Soul Blast 6] When this unit attack a Vanguard, if this unit is in Legion, you may pay the cost. If you do, until end of that battle, this unit gets [Critical]+1, and your opponent cannot call Grade 1 or greater units to (GC) from his/her hand.
[AUTO](VC): When this unit attacks a Vanguard, if you have another unit in the center column, this unit gets [Power]+3000 until end of that battle.

At a glance, this seems like a very powerful unit, but overcosted with a cost of soul blast 6, considering soul charging support from bt14. But wait, let's look at support from eb12:

Regalia of Abundance, Freya: [AUTO](RC): [CB1] When your Vanguard performs Legion, you may pay the cost. If you do, soul charge 3, and this unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn
Regalia of Midday, Hemera: [AUTO] When this unit is placed on (RC), choose up to 3 cards from your drop zone with "Regalia" in its card name, and put it into your soul
Exorcism Regalia, Shiny Angel: [AUTO] When this unit is placed on (RC), choose up to 3 cards from your drop zone with "Regalia" in its card name, and put it into your soul
Regalia of Foredoom, Lot Angel: [AUTO] When this unit is placed on (GC), you may Soul Charge (1)
Regalia of Prayer, Pray Angel: [ACT](RC): [Put this unit into your soul] If your Vanguard is in Legion, Soul Charge (3), choose your Vanguard, and that unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn.

Now does it seem so hard to achieve the cost of Soul Blast 6? I don't think so...

Now let's take a look at what makes CEO Yggdrasil so powerful:

Regalia of Fate, Norn: [AUTO] When this unit is placed in the drop zone from your soul, choose your Vanguard with "Regalia" in its card name, and that unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn
Mirror Regalia, Achiles: [AUTO] When this unit is placed in the drop zone from your soul, choose your Vanguard with "Regalia" in its card name, and that unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn.
Regalia of Purify, Pure Angel: [AUTO]: [Counter Blast 1] When this unit is placed on (RC), you may pay the cost. If you do, choose your Vanguard with "Regalia" in its card name, and until end of turn, that unit gets [Power]+5000, and "[AUTO](VC): [Soul Blast 3] When this unit's attack hits a Vanguard, you may pay the cost, if you do, draw a card.
Regalia of Congratulations, Preach Angel: [AUTO](RC): When this unit boosts a Vanguard, if your Vanguard is in Legion, the boosted unit gets [Power]+4000 until end of that battle

These are the various supports that allow CEO Yggdrasil to gain so much power. Norn and Achiles' skills can be easily activated when Yggdrasil uses her skill to Soul Blast (6). Combining that with Pure Angel, we're possibly looking at 58k power with 2 Critical, without a Vanguard booster. This element of being able to easily power up, and have a critical effect is what makes CEO Yggdrasil so threatening, and hence Genesis' main boss in the current Legion meta.
But of course, CEO Yggdrasil and her mate cannot stand as solo warriors on the field. And that's why we have a second Legion unit for the Regalia archetype:
Regalia of Midnight, Nyx: [ACT] Legion 20000 "Regalia of Midday, Hemera"
[AUTO](VC): When a card with the same name as a unit on your (VC) is placed in your drop zone from your soul, if this unit is in Legion, this unit gets [Power]+5000/[Critical]+1 until en of turn. This ability cannot be used for the rest of that turn.
[ACT](VC): [Soul Blast 3] If the number of cards in your hand is 3 or less, draw a card. This ability cannot be used for the rest of that turn.

The Legion skill seems abit hard to pull off at first glance, but remember the specific Regalia support like Hemera and Shiny Angel. These 2 units can get either Nyx or Hemera into the soul, and then you can use Nyx's ACT ability to place one copy of either herself or Hemera from the soul into the drop zone. Of course it's risky to have 3 or less cards in your hand at any given time, so this may not be a very good card to work with.

All in all, the Genesis Regalia is a very strong deck to use, if you know exactly how each unit works with the other. Below is a decklist of this deck seen in tournaments, but your decklist is for you to decide. After all, Vanguard is all about having fun, right? :D

G3:
4 Cosmic Regalia, CEO Yggdrasil
4 Regalia of Midnight, Nyx
G2:
4 Regalia of Fate, Norn
4 Regalia of Midday, Hemera
3 Regalia of Abundance, Freya
G1:
2 Regalia of Cold, Svalin(Quintet Wall)
2 Witch of Strawberries, Framboise(Perfect Guard)
4 Exorcism Regalia, Shiny Angel
3 Regalia of Purify, Pure Angel
3 Regalia of Congratulations, Preach Angel
Rainbow triggers(all with regalia archetype)
Starter: Regalia of Prayer, Pray Angel

Some may choose to tech in Angelica and/or Minerva as back-up bosses along with some older support from bt14 and td13, but ultimately, your choice of deck build is yours. Do what suits you best and have fun :D

A tale of two cards 2

Hi guys, resuming back another discussion session with this section of A tale of two cards. Today we are going to discuss and evaluate these two cards in BT11.

Today we are going to discuss about these two cards: Goddess of Good Luck, Fortuna and Ravenous Dragon, Battle Rex. So which is better and how do I use the cards?

BT11-003-RRR (Sample) VS BattleRex
Goddess of Good Luck, Fortuna's Effect:
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Soul Blast (3)] When this unit's drive check reveals a grade 1 or greater «Genesis», you may pay the cost. If you do, put the card from that drive check into your drop zone, and perform an additional drive check. [ACT](VC):[Soul Blast (3)] This unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn. [CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)

Ravenous Dragon, Battle Rex Effect:
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):When this unit's drive check reveals a grade 3 «Tachikaze», choose one of your rear-guards, retire it, and this unit gets [Power]+10000 until end of that battle. [AUTO](VC):When this unit is boosted by a «Tachikaze», this unit gets [Power]+3000 until end of that battle.

Fortuna
Lets 1st analyse the uses of fortuna. Firstly, for fortuna's effect to trigger, you need to reveal a grade 1 and pay the cost of soul blasting 3 to perform and additional drive check to gain an extra drive check.

Pros:
It will be good to apply constant pressure on your opponent for them to guard No Trigger pass all the way. So Do I always get a trigger? No... Genesis is a type of deck that will soul charge a lot and there are times where triggers will get soul charged under your vanguard. It is good for filtering the unwanted grade 1s, 2s and 3s during late game to lucksack a trigger out of it. Performing a Drive check that reveals a draw trigger may or may not be good for ya if you have your triggers stacked and may hasten up the trigger. Anyways another question is what if i drive check 2 grade 1s and above? Can i use the effect and stacked it? The effect of the 1st drive checked can be used and so long as you have enough soul to pay its cost.and to therefore the 1st checked has to be resolved 1st then the other one can be performed. Means you drive check a g1, you can pay its cost as much as you want until you get a trigger. before the second drive check.

Cons:
Whats the worst trigger to drive check while ya at 4 damage? A fucking heal trigger. A heal trigger and a grade 1 for your drive check is enough to make you either facepalm or flip tables on this card. A draw trigger might also kill you as you dun want to draw a trigger with a draw trigger. The other bad side of it would be if you abused it too much, it will eat up your soul and leave you soulless which in other words impotent once a genesis vanguard has no more souls under them. Another cons of it would be a trigger soul charged by your rearguards effect, which would decrease the chances of pulling a trigger.

Battle Rex
So how about Battle Rex? For Battle rex effect to takes in effect, It just needs to drive check a grade 3 and pay the cost of retiring one tachikaze rearguard to gain an additional 10k attack. Oh so its similar to Goku where all your grade 3s are 10k triggers. So in other words, 8 Grade 3s + 16 triggers = 24 triggers. 50 - 1 starting vanguard = 49. Assuming you have 24/49 triggers. That is about a 50.50 chance of pulling triggers.

Pros:
It apply great pressure on your opponent with a whooping 20k additional power if a grade 3 is drive checked. which the maximum power it can get would be a 38k vanguard with a 8k vanilla booster and assuming your opponent has a 11k vanguard, he would need to guard 30k no pass every turn, if he want's to be safe from any damage. Therefore, if a double grade 3 were to be revealed, it means ya have to retire 2 units. So what cards do i retire? Below are just some suggestions.

 BT02-034EN RBT08-076 CBT08-033 R
BT08-031 RBT08-080 C

Cons
The cons of it would be a squishy 10k base power where it gets ramped quite easily as a vanguard.

To conclude, I like to say that fortuna is quite overhyped than it actually is. Means its not that good especially where you have to lucksack a lot and you have to pay a huge sum of soul blast to abuse its effect, where i would rather run a iwanagahime where i can clear the front row to push for game. As for battle rex, its good for consistant pressure on your opponent where half your deck is triggers.

Disclaimer: These are only my opinions of what these two cards are, not to be deemed as an absolute answer to what it is. Opinions may be slightly biased to a certain extent.

Do Comment below for your point of view or perspective of these two cards.

Updates and Spoilers

This morning VG-BT12: Binding Force of the Black Rings (黒輪縛鎖 lit. Black Ring Binding Chain) was announced for a Japanese release on July 6th. Featuring support for the revived Shadow Paladin clan and the Link Joker clan that will be introduced in TD11: Star-Vader Invasion, BT12 will introduce Link Joker's new "Lock" mechanic. (Although presented as "Lock" phonetically, the kanji 呪縛 used for it means "Spell" or "Curse.")

The set will contain 102 types of cards with 1 reprint, currently believed to be Blaster Dark Revenger from TD10:Purgatory Revenger. It will also support the Pale Moon, Dark Irregulars, Narukami and Gold Paladin clans. Careful scrutinizing of the promotional images reveals cards resembling Great Silver Wolf Garmore, Divine Seal Dragon Dungaree and Mad-Eye Basilisk. The Link Joker units have been noted to resemble existing units from other clans, so far with Blaster Blade on the cover image for TD11, Spectral Duke Dragon on one promotional image for BT12, and Silver Thorn Dragon Tamer, Luquier on the other promo image. Furthermore, the artists for these Link Joker units are the same as their originals, Suzukigorou and Masa.

Notably, as the images for the Garmore and Dungaree lookalikes have United Sanctuary and Dragon Empire nation boxes, it appears that modern promo materials are now eschewing the standard practice of using Sanctuary templates to conceal a unit's nation prior to release. Because of this, the image for TD11 which showed a US nation likely points to Link Joker being from the United Sanctuary. However, due to now counting a version of Luquier among its ranks, Link Joker may be a composite clan with multiple nations contributing to its card pool.

In addition to the new "Lock" mechanic, the image at left advertises that BT12 will also introduce new crossride and break ride units. With Garmore and Dungaree as the speculated crossride candidates, and the Link Joker clan which is already embraced by many cardfighters as an appealing new group of antagonists, BT12 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sets of 2013.

BT10 review part 1

Booster Set 10: Triumphant Return of the King of Knights

Feature a new clan called Genesis which would be played and pilot by Misaki in the new season of Link Joker.

Here is the trump card used by Misaki at the moment, Battle Deity of the Moonlit Night, Artemis
Artemis3

[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Soul Blast (3)] When this unit attacks a vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, draw two cards, choose a card from your hand, put it into your soul, and this unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of that battle.
[CONT](VC):If you have a card named "Twilight Hunter, Artemis" in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+1000.

As you can see it focus around manipulating its soul to gain hand advantage as it also doesn't use any counter blast.

In bt10 is also feature another counterpart of alfred, where he has liberator in his name.
Liberator of Round Table, Alfred
LiberatorofRoundTableAlfred

[CONT](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):During your turn, this unit gets [Power]+2000 for each of your rear-guards with "Liberator" in its card name.
[ACT](VC):[Counter Blast (2) - Cards with "Liberator" in their card name] Look at up to one card from the top of your deck, search for up to one «Gold Paladin» from among them, call it to an open (RC), and put the rest on the bottom of your deck.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)

Look we have another potential Bad Ass card when combo with Gancelot. Means every turn you get a 10k boost without any restraint.

Narukami has more variants and more variety to its playstyle after being revealed that there are two characters(Naoki Ishida, Kai Toshiki) that play the same clan in the anime.

Eradicator, Gauntlet Buster Dragon
BT10-007-RRR (Sample)
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):When an opponent's rear-guard is put into the drop zone with one of your card's effects, this unit gets [Power]+3000/[Critical]+1 until end of turn.
[ACT](VC):[Counter Blast (2) - Cards with "Eradicator" in their card name] Your opponent chooses one of his or her rear-guards, and retires it.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)

Here is one Bad Ass when rode on Sword vowing dragon. This gives a guarantee effect of getting the critical every turn with its consistent playstyle of retiring opponent units. Love the Artwork though, Looks like one Real Bad Ass to lookout for in the upcoming meta.

Eradicator, Dragonic Descendant
Eradicator, Dragonic Descendant
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (1) & Choose three cards with "Eradicator" in their card name from your hand, and discard them] At the beginning of the close step of the battle that this unit's attack did not hit, you may pay the cost. If you do, [Stand] this unit, and gets [Critical]+1 until end of turn. This ability can only be used once per turn.
[ACT](VC):[Counter Blast (2) - Cards with "Eradicator" in their names] This unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)

Looks like a potential "DOTE" eff with 3 cards to pay to activate its effect. Seems balanced after the Restriction of DOTE. Good for pressuring your opponent with trigger stacks. Effect seems to balanced out after a -3 as a cost and a +4 after drive check. Seems good enough +1. I would recommend play 6 draw, 6 crit. Another Bad Ass to look out for as well.

Pureheart Jewel Knight, Ashlei
Ashlei
[AUTO] Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):When a «Royal Paladin» rides this unit, you may choose one of your vanguards, that unit gets [Power]+10000/[Critical]+1 until end of turn.
[AUTO](VC):When this unit attacks a vanguard, this unit gets [Power]+2000 until end of that battle.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)

Leading Jewel Knight, Salome
Salome
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):When this unit attacks, if the number of other rear-guards you have with "Jewel Knight" in its card name is four or more, this unit gets [Power]+2000/[Critical]+1 until end of that battle.
[ACT](VC):[Counter Blast (2) - Cards with "Jewel Knight" in their card name] Search your deck for up to one card with "Jewel Knight" in its card name, call it to (RC), and shuffle your deck.

Seems like royal paladins are back with bitches like Jewel Knights, an archetype being played by Kourin. Dogs evolves to bitches in season 3. Salome seems to be imba when rode over Ashlei with her effect gave 10k power and +1 critical. Not to mention Salome's own effect which allow her to gain a critical every turn as long as there is 4 or more rearguards. So total would be 3 criticals. How to counter her? Retire her units and attack her rearguard.
